Be sure to check out our blog on getting to and around St John.
There are three options to get to St. John from St. Thomas. See links below.

-
Rent a car on St. Thomas, drive to Red Hook and board the car ferry. There are two companies that travel between St. Thomas and St. John, Love City and Big Red Barge. We recommend purchasing one way, because you don’t know if you will be taking the same company back to St. Thomas. Be sure to bring cash, as they do not take credit cards. Be at the terminal as far in advance as practical, as lines begin forming for boarding 30-40 minutes prior to departure.

There are two people ferries from St. Thomas to St. John, Crown Bay and Red Hook. You will have to board a taxi to get to each. Crown Bay is 5 minutes from the airport. Red Hook is about 30 minutes. The trip time on the ferry from Crown Bay to Cruz Bay is 35 minutes. The trip from Red Hook to Cruz Bay is about 20 minutes. If you choose the Crown Bay option, their website recommends booking in advance and plan on being at the dock 30 minutes ahead of time. Crown Bay offers only two trips on weekdays, and three on weekends. Plan accordingly.

If you rent a car, it can be done on St. Thomas, or on St. John. If you choose to rent on St. Thomas, not all car companies permit their vehicles to be taken to St. john. We recommend Paradise. They meet you at the airport when you arrive and depart, and will make quick arrangements for you to be on your way.

Every visitor has their own perspective of what St. John means to them. One thing we can all agree on, St. John is laid back. Please don't hurry to do anything; take your time and take it in; live the moment. You don't need to do it all; you can always come back; Gaia's Pearl is here for you.
